Introduction
Create a new smart bin in DaVinci Resolve
When projects are complex due to the amount of media, it is important to organize them in an efficient way.
DaVinci Resolve provides several solutions to organize media and one of them is smart bins.
Smart bins can be predefined in the system or they can be created based on specific rules.
Steps are very simple and easy to reproduce. A link to a video sample is available below.

How to
Create
Open the menu:
File >> New smart bin
Then select one of the following options:
- Name: use a name that will help to identify easily its content.
- Match: this field identifies how the rules in the smart bin will be combined. There are two options:
- All: acts as the logic operator "and". The smart bin will include media that are meeting all the rules.
- Any: acts as the logic operator "or". The smart bin will include media that are meeting at least one of the rules.
- Rule: filters for the new smart bin.
- Sub-rule: to further filter a rule it is always possible to add a sub-rule. Hold the "alt" button and click on the plus sign at the end of the rule to create a sub-rule.
By saving the newly created smart bin is automatically updated.
