Introduction

Change timeline resolution in DaVinci Resolve

There are mainly two reasons why timeline resolution should change:

  • Real-time playback performance improves.
  • Adapt to the output needs.

Steps are very simple and easy to reproduce. A link to a video sample is available below.

How to

Whole project

This action changes the resolution for all the timelines in the projects.

  • Click on the gear icon located on the bottom right of the window.
  • Go to:
Master Settings >> Timeline format >> Timeline resolution 
  • Select the needed timeline resolution.
  • Click on "save" to confirm the selection.

Specific timeline

This action changes the resolution for a specific timeline in the projects.

  • Find the timeline in the media pool.
  • Right-click on the timeline, then:
Timelines >> Timeline settings
  • Deselect "Use project settings".
  • Select the needed timeline resolution.
  • Click on "OK" to confirm the selection.
