Introduction
Change timeline resolution in DaVinci Resolve
There are mainly two reasons why timeline resolution should change:
- Real-time playback performance improves.
- Adapt to the output needs.
Steps are very simple and easy to reproduce. A link to a video sample is available below.

How to
Whole project
This action changes the resolution for all the timelines in the projects.
- Click on the gear icon located on the bottom right of the window.
- Go to:
Master Settings >> Timeline format >> Timeline resolution
- Select the needed timeline resolution.
- Click on "save" to confirm the selection.
Specific timeline
This action changes the resolution for a specific timeline in the projects.
- Find the timeline in the media pool.
- Right-click on the timeline, then:
Timelines >> Timeline settings
- Deselect "Use project settings".
- Select the needed timeline resolution.
- Click on "OK" to confirm the selection.
